KELSEYVILLE, CALIF.–Pears have been called Gift of the Gods. Lake County’s sharply cold nights swinging into blistering hot summer days affects the famous Lake County pears in amazing ways–creating  higher sugar levels than other region! We’re talking sweet! The legend of Mt. Konocti which is a landmark looming over the famous pear growing region says that good luck will come to those who eat fruit grown from the mountain’s volcanic soils. A legend, a fruit and a festival bring to fruition the belief that eating Lake County pears is, indeed, a fortunate event for all who partake and participate in Kelseyville Pear Festival, one of three pear festivals held in northern California.  Kelseyville’s event takes place always on the Saturday in September (Sept. 28, 2013.) The free admission festival includes a parade, entertainment, vendors and contests. See:  pearfestival.com
