Art Bell, credited with creating a genre in night-time radio listening, recently returned to the air after an hiatus of several years. His grassroots Internet show, Midnight in the Desert (artbell.com), has quickly grown to include radio broadcasts in major markets where he previously built an audience of over 10 million nightly fans. On October 21, 2015 Bell artfully interviewed author and professor Dr. William Forstchen, an expert on Electro-Magnetic Pulse threats, when he suddenly announced mid-sentence that he had a situation and needed to take a quick break. He came back on air to tell the audience and his guest that gun shots were fired, and, according to his neighbors, appeared to be aimed at his broadcast studio in Pahrump, NV. One neighbor said a gunman got out of a car and fired 6 rounds from a rifle aimed at the building Bell was in. Police responded to the call and an investigation is underway. While Art Bell delves into topics ranging from new technologies, to aliens, ghosts, life after death and Men in Black, some fans wondered if Art Bell is under attack by sinister forces seeking to silence him and his program. Doubters questioned the validity of the incident and plan to study the case, hoping to debunk it.
