Labor Day Weekend Art
HERMOSA BEACH, CALIF. — In one artist booth a lady in a pink floral dress paints oversize, swirling hearts on pale blue canvas. Next to her a photographer in a director’s chair wears a Surfrider sweatshirt, reflecting his love of waves, surfboards, and beaches. His ocean-themed pictures are mounted on bamboo mattes, framed in dark, rich woods. The two artists offer strikingly different styles but share a common bond, same as thousands of artists packing their merchandise into trucks and vans and placing them on display this busy Labor Day Weekend. It’s the last hurrah for vacationers, and a great opportunity to buy art gifts before the Christmas holiday, approx. 17 weeks away.
