Labor Day, the federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September, was created over 100 years ago to celebrate and pay tribute to the economic and social contributions of workers.  Most Americans see it as the end of summer, the last chance to take a vacation before the kids go back to school, the last time to relax and go to the beaches and mountains before ski season.
