Do you think you know California? If you said “yes” you probably know about the Jumping Frog Jubilee in Calaveras County. If you’re really smart, you know about Coarsegold’s Tarantula Festival in October.  Give yourself a pat on the back if you’re familiar with Doyle Days Lizard Races this weekend, August 2-3, 2013.

Where is Doyle? It is in Lassen County near the Nevada border not far from Reno. The population is less than 1,000 people, but boy, do they know how to have fun! In addition to a kids parade, lizard races, pancake breakfast and horseshoe tournament, there’s a Midnight Street Dance with the band, Cool Change. I am sorry I’ll miss the fun but this weekend I’ll be scratching my head and wondering how you get lizards to race each other!
