Lodi Wine and Chocolate

There are at least 3 chocolate festivals in California this weekend but one near and dear to our hearts is the Lodi Wine & Chocolate Weekend. In addition to  a list of more than 50 wineries you can visit for wine and chocolate pairings, your ticket is valid for two days of exploring. The event has partnered with Brix, the first line of chocolates specifically blended to compliment wine. Founder Dr. Nick Proia created Brix when it became obvious to him that no chocolate on the market paired well with wine. It seemed foolish to eat fat-laden cheeses after dinner, while trying to benefit from the health effects of wines. As a result he developed four basic variations of Brix Chocolate–extra dark (70%), medium dark (60%), smooth dark (54%) and milk chocolate (46%). So far that sounds like nothing new or different. However, the Ohio pulmonologist (doctor specializing in diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary or lung conditions,) claims to have formulated his chocolate recipes to accompany specific wines. When you go, be sure to stop by the Lodi Wine and Visitor Center, 2545 W. Turner Rd., for handcrafted wine and Brix Chocolate!
