BAKERSFIELD: Haggard Boxcar Festival on April 9, 2017 celebrates Kern Pioneer Village’s Haggard House, the newly restored boyhood home of country music legend Merle Haggard (Okie from Muskogee and The Fightin’ Side of Me.) Along with Buck Owens, Haggard and his band helped create the Bakersfield Sound, a rough edge unlike Nashville’s polished recordings of the same era. Boxcar Festival concert pays tribute to the legend who passed away on April 6, 2016, and features Merle Haggard’s sons Ben & Noel, along with Merle’s band, The Strangers. boxcarfest.org
