People don’t go to music festivals JUST to hear the music at lifestyle events that include activities such as camping, painting, dancing, communing with people, the stars, or whatever. This week offers several examples such as Los Angeles Burning Man Decompression Music & Art Festival.

California October Music Fests

  • AVALON: Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival where getting there is half the fun. Catamaran ferries run through midnight between the mainland and this tropical island paradise for this event.
  • LOS ANGELES: Burning Man Decompression at Los Angeles State Historic Park includes art cars, theme camps, fire performances and many local “Burners.”
  • ROLLING HILLS ESTATES: Hilltop Hoedown Country Music Fest. The Palos Verdes Peninsula is known more for its equestrian lifestyle and Pacific Ocean views than for Country Music. However, a fun and festive atmosphere rocks the place this week with games, music and an after party to celebrate performing artists  such as Jerrod Niemann.
  • PALMDALE: Kaleidoscope Art & Music Festival features 3D artists, ArtLight exhibit, and entertainment by Grammy-nominated Lisa Haley & The Zydecats, Stone Soul, High-D Boys, Paddy’s Pig and more. Admission and parking are free.
  • OAKLAND: Treasure Island Music Festival at Middle Island Shoreline Park features 20 bands and a fantastic Bay Area setting not to be beat. October weather tends to be great.
  • SACRAMENTO: Aftershock Music Festival at Discovery Park features some famous acts such as Incubus and Alice in Chains. For fans of this genre, you know this is more than music–it’s a lifestyle.
  • NAPA/SONOMA: Ragtime Romp includes Scott Joplin tunes and some vintage costumes and dancing.
  • PERRIS: Desert Daze at Moreno Beach offers camping under the stars for an extra fee.
  • OAKLAND: California Deathfest III at Oakland Opera House heads to the dark side for music from Hellfire Deathcult, Malignancy, Impaled and Doom, to name a few.
