More People Are Snacking – Snack Tips, Stats

When SNAXPO’s 76th annual snack food conference meets in Tampa in March, optimism is on the plate.  California just lost the battle of requiring labeling of GMOs (genetically modified organism) in foods, and the snack industry is delighted. That victory, hopes for the economy, and emerging world markets all contribute to snack food sales reaching $335 billion by 2015! Packaging is a key element in the industry, with options such as single-serving packages, bite-sized packs and resalable bags proving popular, as well as snacks marketed as low calorie, low fat, vitamin fortified, organic and fiber-rich. Snacks aren’t always the healthy choice, however. Sometimes people want a snack as an indulgence, plain & simple. There are a variety of reasons that people snack, but we’re sticking with the “get healthy 2013” theme this week by offering tips for healthy snacking.  Read snacking tips and see snack stats!
