Mother’s Day Art Festivals in California
Happy 50th Anniversary to Sunset Beach Mother’s Day Art Festival on May 13-14, 2017! Pictured is artwork of Sunset Beach by Bill Anderson, shoppers at the Art Festival, and moms playing in the sand at Sunset Beach. The art festival started out 50 years ago with a pancake breakfast and a few artists selling their work. The day ended with a dinner and dance for locals, according to Holly Schlange, President of Las Damas, the volunteer organization producing the event. Proceeds went to the purchase of the 12th Street lot where the Fire Station (now the community center) was built. Today the festival attracts thousands of people with proceeds benefitting local schools, scholarships, and philanthropies. Isn’t it just like women (including many mothers) to help others on Mother’s Day?
