GLENDALE, CALIF. — Years in the making, the grand opening of the Museum of Neon Art is set to lighten up the lives of fans who love neon lights. Previously located in downtown Los Angeles, an impressive collection of vintage signs needed to find a new home, and Glendale told the museum to “come on down!” On Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, a party to celebrate this special day takes place at the museum’s new digs on 216 S. Brand Blvd. Among the jewels of its electrifying collection is The Brown Derby restaurant’s neon hat sign. The Hollywood & Vine establishment where Cobb Salad was invented opened on Valentine’s Day 1929. The landmark restaurant closed 56 years later in 1985 but its neon sign was saved, passing through two private collections before being donated to the Neon Art museum. In addition to seeing the museum, take a 3-hour Neon Cruise which departs from 4th & Main in Downtown L.A. Details and reservations are available on the museum’s website, neonmona.org
