SeeCalifornia.com’s resident reporter/photographer, Chris MacDonald, who’s a former Huntington Beach Mayor’s Award recipient and volunteer at the Huntington Beach Surfing Museum, went on location to cover the 2020 Surf City Splash that rocks in each new year with a dip in the ocean next to Huntington Beach Pier.

The jovial gathering of internationally-known surf icons, tourists, and fun-loving adventurers celebrated the launch of a new decade with a pancake breakfast, costume contest and awards for all who took part in the sunny, Southern California event.

The 20th annual Surf City Splash produced by Huntington Beach Surfing Museum, drew approx. 500 participants. Among them were some well known surfing icons such as Jericho Popler, World Champion female surfer with her Surf City Gogo Girls (left photo), famed surfer Rockin’ Fig AKA Ric Fignetti with Mr. Huntington Beach Calvin Free (middle photo), Bob the Greek Bolen (maker of Turbo Tunnel and world champion surfer), P.T. Townend – World Champion Surfer, Longboard Surf Club president Gary Sahagen, Bill Fury – Local Hero on the Surfing Walk of Fame, Chuck Linnen – Boys of 55 surfer and multiple surfing awards honoree, Rocky McKinnon – surfboard designer & shaper  and many more.

Local legends and other folks of interest who attended the Huntington City Beach event were Mike Ali (Zack’s Beach Resort & Concessions,) Miss Huntington Beach Mara James, Miss Tall International 2019 Susan W. Hopkins,  Huntington Beach City Historian – Jerry Person, Hollywood stuntman Dan McCoy, HB Mayor Lyn Semeta, Council Members Patrick Brenden & Kim Carr, event organizer Lee Love and Surf Trophy designer Dave Reynolds.

There are too many people to mention but suffice to say this tight-knit group of HB locals who show up at their favorite spot (sandy beach & Pacific Ocean) were full of smiles and joy anticipating the next great wave to come their way in this brand new year!
