Newport Beach Tree Lighting is Mickey Mouse Operation

It’s wasn’t exactly Christmas in July but most of us slackers were still putting away the Halloween decorations when Newport Beach’s trendy Fashion Island shopping center held its two-day tree lighting festival on November 7 & 8. The ceremonial event which launches Christmas Shopping Season attracts huge crowds no matter how early it is held!

Fashion Island’s “tallest living Christmas tree” in Neiman Marcus-Bloomingdale’s Courtyard, and elaborate tree lighting ceremonies in recent years have included Disney characters and themes, a magic formula, it seems.  Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy dressed in holiday attire dance and sing Christmas tunes, then flip the switch to light the tree. In 2015 the corporate partnership and cross-promotion between Disney and Irvine Company (which operates Fashion Island) includes a contest to win a Magical Holiday Package to the Disneyland Resort plus a two-night stay and Deluxe Annual Passes. If you look forward to celebrating Christmas events AFTER Thanksgiving, there will be hundreds of tree lighting ceremonies and parades throughout California.  Stay tuned!
