Everyone can rock & roll, but can you also rule? Old Guys do! Back in 197os when a band called “The Who” recorded a song by Mose Allison called ‘Young Man Blues’, they were youngsters themselves. Surviving band members Roger Daltry (67) and Pete Townshend (66)  got together for a tour in 2009 performing songs like this one that express the sentiment that old guys rule:

Oh well a young man ain’t got nothin’ in the world these days
I said a young man ain’t got nothin’ in the world these days
You know in the old days When a young man was a strong man
All the people they’d step back When a young man walked by

But you know nowadays It’s the old man, He’s got all the money
And a young man ain’t got nothin’ in the world these days!

Some of the finest rockers are old guys who just keep on singing those tunes, recording new hits and producing popular entertainment for the public to listen to, see and enjoy!

Here are a few old guys who rule:

  • Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones turns 70 next year. He’s still out on the road singing, “I can’t get no satisfaction.”
  • British icon, Paul McCartney,  turns 70 on June 18. He continues to compose & record new songs, and sometimes makes tour appearances.
  • Playboy’s Hugh Hefner, who will be 86 in April, nearly tied the knot last year to beautiful, young Crystal Harris, who was 60 years his junior. She said she had a hard time keeping up with the old guy.
  • Quincy Jones, world famous composer, producer and performer turns 79 in March. Is he sitting still? Not a chance!

Old Guys Rule, for sure, as proven by many guys over the age of 60 who make more money in a single week or month than most of us will make in our lifetime.  What contributes to ruling, as we’ve noticed is 1. having money, 2. having fame, 3. having a great voice and being famous for your music, 4. or just being incredibly charismatic, handsome or creative and energetic.

Old guys have a lot going on. Some buy classic cars or woodies and wear shirts that say “tiki dude”. Some surf, climb mountains and particpate in endurance races.  In California when you become an old guy, the best may be just around the bend on the next wave, in the next race, car show, concert hall or issue of Playboy magazine! Here’s to Old Guys!
