International Reggae Day is July 1
One love, one heart. Let’s get together and feel all right. – Bob Marley . Though he died at the young age of 36 (from metastatic melanoma,) few artists have made such an impact on a musical genre as Bob Marley did with reggae. Many greats in the field (Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, The Maytals, Jimmy Cliff) have sung about being happy, positive and treating each other like sisters and brothers, but also about social welfare, activism and equality. Reggae music fans are one of California’s most dedicated audiences as evidenced by sellout festivals and concerts such as Topanga’s Reggae on the Mountain during the summer. Each week there are clubs and bars that feature reggae, and annually some special festivals pay homage to not only past reggae greats, but contemporary musicians and performers who carry the torch. Start your reggae year by catching Tribute to the Reggae Legends music festival at Balboa Park’s new Cultural Center on Feb. 14 and 15, 2015. Here’s more reggae concert info…>
