One of California’s best known and beloved mothers is Vicki Lawrence, who played Thelma Harper on “Mama’s Family” (left photos). Lawrence continues to play “Mama” in a theatrical performance based on the hit TV series.   The middle photo shows a seagull on a nest with several speckled eggs on Anacapa Island, fiercely warning passers by to stay clear. The right image taken at Huntington Library & Gardens is by artist  Pinturicchio 1496-97, showing Madonna and child.

You miss your mother the most when she has passed away and it’s your first Mother’s Day without her. It’s a challenging time when you no longer can send mom a Mother’s Day card, thanking her. No one loved you more than your mother and you especially feel the blow of her loss the following Mother’s Day. You can’t call her or send a card to her, expressing your love and gratitude.

Norman Vincent Peale once said he felt the same way, when he first heard his mom had died. His wife comforted him by saying, “Your mother is going to be with you, and nearer to you from now on, much more than ever before. You used to have to fly and see her for a few days or a few hours. Now she will be with you always!” That’s true. Feel her presence and know that she’s your guardian angel, always helping you, just like she always did.
