A spectacular, free festival of Chinese art this week brings some of the most talented artists and their works from China to the U.S. One exhibit, “The Art Made by Jade,” showcases carved and sculpted jade, part of an art form dating to at least 4,000 years ago. Jade in China is pronounced ‘Yu’, implying honor and conviction. Many girls in ancient times were named with jade to reflect the love of their parents. The stone with healing qualities for the human stomach and kidneys is animated with a soul. Paintings, calligraphy style, workshops, musical performances, film showings, lectures, and an awards ceremony at Maeya Art Festival take place Jan. 23-25, 2015 at 550 Deep Valley Drive, Room 261; Rolling Hills Estates, Ca.
