One of the most unique fundraisers in California is the Rubber Ducky Race, Derby or Duck-a-thon festival. Shown is the big ducky “dump” from Diestlehorst Bridge into the Sacramento River in Redding. Last year approx. 36,000 ducks were adopted and raced. Most duck derbies are fundraisers for causes ranging from school programs to medical assistance and care. In most derbies the public can sponsor ducks, name them, then be eligible for prizes. Be sure to see a duck derby — you’ll be amazed! There’s something magical about massive quantities of yellow or orange rubber duckies all in one place.
