She Studies Noise Pollution – In the Ocean!

Few of us hear or even think about noise pollution in the Pacific. But just imagine what can happen when a whale traveling thousands of miles during annual migrations can’t detect rock formations and other dangers because his “GPS” signal isn’t coming in loud and clear. Scientists such as Dr. Ana Sirovic, Ph.D., are studying possible impacts of noise from ships, sonar, pile drivers and industrial activity on sea life. The researcher at UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography, has logged more than 300 days of sea time  using non-lethal acoustic methods and technology to study these sounds.  Read more…>
