For those who love strawberries, you know that this is the season for strawberries to sweeten a romance. Huge, juicy red berries the size of  a small apple come from California and are shipped throughout the world–Canada, Mexico, Japan and Hong Kong are the largest importers. California is the nation’s leading producer of strawberries, growing more than 2 billion pounds of strawberries in a year! That amounts to 88% of the country’s total fresh and frozen strawberries.

Strawberries dipped in chocolate make a wonderful Valentine’s gift. You can order them online and have them shipped or  enjoy picking your own strawberries at local farms and make your own hand-dipped berries. Check out places such as Costco where they have been huge lately, if you prefer to buy them! Though strawberries are coming into season right now, the biggest California strawberry festivals happen in a few months. Oxnard, Santa Maria, Arroyo Grande and Garden Grove all have strawberry festivals where you can eat tons of strawberry shortcake.
