The majority of California’s seasonal water parks are opening now through Memorial Day. Are your loved ones ready to take the swimming safety plunge like families at La Mirada’s Regional Aquatic Center, Swim School and Splash have done since 2010? Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death of children ages 1-14. The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson (worldslargestswimminglesson.org) is a promotional event on Friday, June 24, 2016 designed to build awareness about the vital importance of teaching kids to swim to help prevent drowning. All aquatic facilities participating in the WLSL can pick their time, but they need to teach the same 30-minute lesson. The curriculum is an easy, beginner lesson to allow for the broadest participation possible. As of this posting 38 swim programs in California are participating.
