Tomato lovers know they should have planted by now for a summer crop that’s starting to show up in late June and July.

One of the places that typically hosts a tomato festival (though none has been announced for 2018 as of yet) is Jack Creek Farms in Templeton, Calif. If you’ve never visited, put it on your list for down home hospitality and a variety of honeys, sweets, produce and products based on what’s in season.

The family farm operated by a couple and their college-educated daughters Becky and Mandy, posted on April 20: “Us farm girls spent all day Tuesday planting about 200 of our awesome heirloom tomatoes. (When we say that God and girl power is what keeps us going, we aren’t kidding.) We should hopefully start harvesting some of the first tomatoes of the season sometime late July so keep an eye out!” Location: 5000 Highway 46 West, approximately 7 miles west of Highway 101 – midway between Paso Robles and Cambria. SeeCalifornia.com included this vignette because it showcases what tomato festivals are all about — great tomatoes and fantastic people who grow them! Why are tomatoes KING in California? The state is top producer of certain types.
