Weekend Advice: Call First Before Going

Are you planning to attend a festival or event this weekend? If so, you may want to call before going to outdoor events. Why? Several events we previously promoted have announced  postponement due to predicted rain.  The Whale Festival at Rancho Palos Verdes and Ocean Beach (San Diego) Kite Festival  have changed their dates. We’re updating the calendar, but most events this weekend are indoor home & garden shows.

Rain is excellent news for California, of course. The City of Long Beach yesterday announced new restrictions limiting residential lawn watering. Much more concerning was Central Valley farmers being told that their water supplies are not guaranteed this year, a signal that food prices will go up!  California definitely needs the rain.

Heal the Bay recommends to avoid getting sick stay out of waterways for 72 hours after the rain you give the pollutants a chance to settle in California’s waterways. The non-profit organization that monitors water quality says people should stay out of the Pacific Ocean and other bodies of water that experience run-off, and that parents should keep kids from playing in water near storm drains such as the young girl pictured. Here are 3 tips to avoid getting sick after it rains.
