WhooHoo! It’s Bonfire Time!

Published on: January 28, 2012

Are you a big fan of bonfires? WhooHoo! We love them, too. And so do millions of other Californians (and visitors) who are always looking for places to go enjoy a gathering a friends. Bonfire pits are open all year long at some of California’s beaches and state parks, but some people think winter is too cold to be out at night in front of a blazing fire for hours on end. So for you, it’s getting into bonfire time once again as California braces for summer.

Favorite places to enjoy bonfires: San Francisco has some great little beaches where you can go roast wieners, but Central Coast ranks tops. At Pismo (Oceano) Dunes State Beach, you can build the fire right on the sand and drive your car in next to it. Stores next to the beach in Grover Beach also sell bundles of wood during the summer months. It costs around $5-6 for a bundle.

Then there’s Southern California. The beaches from Huntington Beach to San Diego provide bonfire rings where you can build a fire, first come first serve. They don’t allow you to burn wooden crates or furniture but you can bring you own wood in and get cooking. For a fun, cheap way to enjoy the great outdoors, plan on having a bonfire in 2012. It is one of the best, cheap things to do.
