Motorists driving along Pacific Coast Highway in Sunset Beach, Calif. got quite a surprise yesterday seeing the cast of an Easter play, Tragedy & Triumph, walking along the sidewalk, then crossing the street to pose in front of a billboard promoting the event. A bearded Jesus led the charge — adults & kids in elaborate helmets, wigs, robes and sandals — while passers by waved and honked. Columnist Chris MacDonald said he never anticipated how lively and noisy it would be when he requested the cast & crew go across the street from their play rehearsal for a photo in front of the signage. Even a police helicopter flew over the scene checking out the costumed crowd assembled on the Sunset Beach greenbelt. The all volunteer group from Calvary Chapel of the Harbour (ccoth.com) presents an original play written by Pastor Joe Pedick’s wife, Kathleen, a former professional jazz singer from Scotland. The outfits were handmade for the event’s performances April 2 and 3, 2015 at 7 p.m., and at 10 a.m. on Easter Sunday. Info: (562) 592-1800
