California Camels

California, the land of “firsts” when it comes to dairies, had the first camel dairy in the United States in 1999. Oasis Camel Dairy in Ramona was founded by Gil and Nancy Riegler (shown in photos). Now there are 10 such camel dairies in Colorado and other states. The innovative couple also created the popular Turkey Stampede you may see at county fairs.

Camel milk is expensive, but…

  • It has high Levels of GABA needed for the brain to function properly. University of California Irvine research determined camel milk and goat milk both have significantly more GABA than cow’s milk or human milk. Not only that, but the GABA in camel milk is also more bioavailable.
