SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. — Named One of the Top Ten Parades in the World by the International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA), the Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016 begins with a bang at 5:15 p.m. Firecrackers and the 268-foot long Golden Dragon animated by 100 men and women electrify the crowd at Market & 2nd Street, signaling the time has come to celebrate the Year of the Monkey in a 2 hour and 45 minute journey through Chinatown. Visible thanks to staged lighting along the route, lion dancers, illuminated floats, folk dancers, marching bands, stilt walkers and Chinese acrobats entertain in a tradition San Francisco has embraced for more than 150 years. If you go, you can’t go wrong booking a room at Hotel Nikko, just a few blocks from the parade launch.
