My parents retired to Santa Maria where my father grew the biggest, sweetest strawberries I’ve ever seen & tasted. He called Santa Maria “The Garden of Eden.” So, when I sat at a stoplight this week in Orange County gazing at a roadside stand with a sign that announced “Santa Maria Strawberries”, I wanted to stop to buy some fruit. Better yet, I think I will head for the Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Festival April 29-May 1, 2016. Pictured are actual berries (center photo) from Little Pete’s Farms, one of the dozens of vendors selling their crops at the 29th annual berry big, berry tasty, berry festival. Santa Maria’s epic event launches a crop of strawberry festivals throughout California in the month of May.
