Consumers say they will spend more than ever on this year’s Mother’s Day as they shower moms with everything from jewelry to special outings at restaurants. I’d give anything to hug my mom and tell her I love her on Mother’s Day — she passed away a year ago and before she passed she began giving away her “stuff.” Gift-giving is great, but if you’re looking for something you can do together, here are a few ideas:

A recent National Retail Federation study found Americans plan on spending billions on moms in 2017 — with consumers averaging $186.39 for the holiday, up from last year’s $172.22.

  • Jewelry $4.2 billion
  • Special brunch or dinner $3.5 billion
  • Flowers $2.3 billion
  • Electronics $2.3 billion
  • Gift cards $2 billion
  • Clothing and accessories $1.7 billion
  • Day spa, etc. $1.5 billion

Where Americans shop

  • Specialty stores including jewelers, florists and electronics stores 36.6%
  • Department store 34.4%
  • Discount stores 29.1%
  • Online 28.5%
  • Specialty clothing stores 8.9%
