SeeCalifornia.com likes to promote Pasadena’s glorious Tournament of Roses, Rose Parade to celebrate each new year. With nearly 1 million people attending various events and millions more worldwide watching broadcasts, this is huge!
Meanwhile, 45 miles south in Sunset Beach residents make preparations for a pre-Christmas parade that’s of no consequence to all but a handful of locals. We often overlook it, forgetting to include No Parade in our Christmas Parades list.
No Parade date is December 21, 2019, 6:03 p.m.
Location: Meet near Jack in the Box on North Pacific Ave., Sunset Beach, CA
While it’s actually called No Parade, it has also gone by other names such as YOT Parade, to poke fun and Huntington Harbour’s and Newport Beach’s Christmas Boat Parades nearby.
Anyone can enter No Parade, but it’s preferred that your bring holiday cheer and decorative lights.
Entrants: We’ve seen golf carts, cars, truck, bikes, kids wagons, skateboards, unicycles, and even wheelchairs strung with lights making the two-mile round-trip journey along the town’s greenbelt on North Pacific, then South Pacific Avenue.
The beach-casual parade start time is flexible. Whenever possible, the parade launches with some official vehicle like a fire engine. Oftentimes the parade begins when such a vehicle is able to show up and officiate.
Rain may cancel. Don’t drive a long distance to see No Parade or you may end up seeing nothing at all.
First-hand account: We’ve ridden in a friend’s old Woodie in No Parade. Except for the car’s gas fumes making us sick, being in the parade was almost as much fun as standing and watching it.
