OK city slicker… did you ever wonder what they do at an ag show? Do you even know what ‘ag’ is? Now is your chance to find out. This week and next two of the biggest agriculture shows in California, the Colusa Farm Show Feb. 2-4, 2016, and World Ag Expo in Tulare Feb. 9-11, offer the public an inside look at the business of growing. From nut growers to shelling facilities, nurseries to machine shops, the world of ag means big bucks to California. If we simply fed our state that would be great, but Californians are in the business of exporting foods, beverages and plants. We lead in wine production, milk – dairy, cheese, nuts (almonds, walnuts & pistachios) olives, grapes, lettuce, avocados, lemons, artichokes and strawberries — you get the picture. Californians owe it to themselves to learn about farming and food issues since we, as voters, create laws that impact farmers and their ability to stay in business.
