Here are some actual requests and wishes from people who say the holidays are stressing them out. While merchants are promoting great deals on clothing and other such gifts this week, the wish lists are much more complicated and costly. So much for giving someone a sweater!   All I want for Christmas is…

  • One California woman wants to meet her mother and brother in Rome at the Vatican. Her brother has risen in the ranks of the Catholic Church and will host her (along with her toddler,) and mother who will be flying from Mexico. The woman asked her husband if he could give her this Christmas wish. Expected cost: $3,500
  • Flat screen 50″ TV for an 80-something lady who recently lost her husband and now sits home alone. Expected cost $450
  • Room addition for a family who’s beach bungalow seems to have gotten smaller. Expected cost $50,000
  • Cancer free – for the woman has fought and won one battle but isn’t out of the woods just yet. Expected cost: TBD
  • A public relations jobs for the guy who has been looking for several years. Expected income: $98,000 / year
  • A straw hat for the beach boy who needs coverage from the Endless Summer sun. Expected cost: $5 (swap meet) or $15 retail
  • Phone or tablet and data plan for the man whose Verizon land line and FIOS service has become unreliable. Cost: $1500/year,  2 year commitment
  • Grandpa. A young boy lost his grandfather this year and wishes for his return.
  • A trip to California for a retired couple who’s coming by Amtrak train from Kansas and has relatives to stay with upon arrival. Cost: $1000
  • A new car for the teenage girl who just got her license and wants to drive to school like everyone else does. Cost: $15,000
