The only county in California named after a native Californian, Jose Maria Amador, loves its roots and gold rush era heritage. Amador sounds a little like “amore” or “amorous” and indeed, love is everywhere on Valentine’s Day 2015.  From the Black & White Ball to raise money for the fairgrounds, to a raffle for an $18,500 white-gold tanzanite & diamond pendant with proceeds benefiting the Hospice of Amador & Calaveras, love comes in many packages, places and celebrations. Billed as “The Heart of the Gold Country,” Amador County touches those who visit any day, but especially on Valentine’s Day. Historic inns with gourmet dining and charming wineries along country roads in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains have some special plans to enhance the romance. Towns such as Volcano, Pine Grove, Amador City, Jackson and Drytown offer special dinners, festivals and events on Feb. 14 and they want tourists to fall in love with their slice of paradise!
