Love is in the air on Valentine's Day in Amador County. Located  45 miles  southeast of Sacramento  in the Sierra Nevada foothills, Amador County is the only county in California named after a native Californian, Jose Maria Amador. The wealthy mid-1800s ranchero owned  land covering much of what is now Amador Valley near Danville. Gold miners petitioned to name a new county after him rather than calling it Washington.  Approx. 40,000 residents within the county's 605 square miles enjoy open space, historical places, wineries, farms, country roads and lots of special events and festivals to celebrate their good fortune, living in such a beautiful region of the state.
