American Graffiti

Published on: April 10, 2015

American Graffiti, a movie directed by local legend, George Lucas, is celebrated in not 1 but 2 cities and two great events.

  • PETALUMA: The first, Petaluma’s Salute to American Graffiti May 14, 15, and 16, 2015, is a classic car show and cruise that is held on the same streets that Lucas used in 1972 to film what many believe is his best movie, American Graffiti.
  • MODESTO: The American Graffiti Festival in Modesto June 6-14, 2015, includes a classic car show (June 13-14), a downtown cruise, sock hop, and the annual movie screening of American Graffiti at the State Theatre. George Lucas was born and raised in Modesto and the majority of scenes in his great movie either happened there or were inspired by events in the city.
