Amgen Tour of California Bicycle Competition lasts 8 days in May, travels 700 miles near beaches, through mountains, wine country and Los Angeles, and includes 4,000 volunteers as it passes through 13 host cities during this staged event. The most challenging stage of the race on the next to the last day (Saturday, May 16, 2015,) may determine the winner. The 80 mile ride heads up Mt. Baldy in Southern California with a whopping 11,600 foot elevation gain! Starting in Ontario racers face a challenging 11-mile climb up Mt. Baldy. After an acute left, the racers endure another mile of climbing up Glendora Ridge Road to their first of three monster KOMs (King of the Mountains). From there, they navigate 12 miles of narrow and twisting roads that gradually descend to a fast and technical descent down the backside of Glendora Mountain Road. The Amgen Tour of California is a Tour de France-style cycling road race created and presented by AEG that challenges top professional cycling teams, including Olympic medalists, Tour de France contenders and World Champions.
