Like Mardi Gras and Halloween there’s nothing small about the way the 2nd largest city in California pays homage to St. Patrick’s Day, exemplifying its love of outdoor parties. On March 14, 2015 the day begins with a festival in Balboa Park at 9 a.m.  At 10:30 a.m. the largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade west of the Mississippi with 150 entries, bands and bagpipers, marches from 5th Avenue & Laurel to 6th & Juniper.

As the festival in Balboa Parks winds down around 6 p.m. the annual shamRock block party in Gaslamp Quarter is just heating up! It starts at 4 p.m. in a popular tourist area near the harbor where you can book a hotel room (there are thousands of rooms within several blocks,) and never drive during the time to imbibe. ShamRock sells out so if you’re thinking of going, don’t wait till the last minute!
