Annual Suffrage Rally Pays Homage to 19th Amendment

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. — The Women’s Museum of California (womensmuseumca.org) hosts a Suffrage Rally Aug.26, 2018 in honor of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution specifying that the right to vote cannot be denied based on sex. It was ratified on August 18, 1920.

Held in Balboa Park individuals are invited to “Dress up in white, wear your sashes and buttons as well as wave your Suffrage, ERA, Equal Pay, Me Too, and feminist movement signs to celebrate the journey of women’s rights from 1848 to today.”

27 Amendments

The first 10 were ratified simultaneously as the Bill of Rights.

  • #1  guarantees exercise of religion, freedom of speech, press, and peaceably assemble
  • # 2 protects right to keep and bear arms
  • #3 restricts quartering of soldiers
  • #4 prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures
  • #5 protects due process, prohibits self-incrimination and double jeopardy
  • #6 protects fair and speedy public trial by jury
  • #7 civil case right to trial by jury
  • #8 prohibits excessive fines and bail
  • #9 protects rights not enumerated in the Constitution
  • #10 reinforces powers through the Constitution
  • #11 foundation for sovereign immunity
  • #12 specifies President and Vice President elected together
  • #13 abolishes slavery
  • #14 defines citizenship
  • #15 guarantees right to vote for all races, colors
  • #16 permits Congress to levy income tax
  • #17 establishes election of Senators by popular vote
  • #18 prohibits sale of alcohol
  • #19 prohibits denial of the right to vote based on sex
  • #20 changes date of President and Vice President terms
  • #21 repeals 18th Amendment
  • #22 limits number of times a person can be elected president
  • #23 establishes District of Columbia electors
  • #24 prohibits revocation of voting rights due to delinquent taxes
  • #25 establishes procedures for filling vacancies of Vice President, and responding to Presidential disabilities.
  • #26 guarantees 18 years+ can vote
  • #27 guidelines for Congressional salary
