Art Under the Umbrellas in La Quinta

Published on: September 24, 2012

It’s 104 degrees in La Quinta today, but the next time the umbrellas are opened on October 27, 2012 to create shade for the coolest art event in the Coachella Valley, the high should be a comfortable, dry 94 degrees. It is the perfect weather and setting for Art Under the Umbrellas, one of the most popular, regularly scheduled art events in “The Valley”.  Sponsored by the active La Quinta Arts Foundation (laqf.org), it takes place on the streets of Old Town La Quinta, a desert oasis for ‘snowbirds’ escaping cold winters.

La Quinta, a charming city  nine miles south of Palm Desert, features Old Town charm with great art galleries, boutiques and dining. Located approx. 130 from L.A. or San Diego, Art Under the Umbrellas is a great day trip or overnight stay. The region includes a variety of budget hotels and resorts with tennis, golf, swimming and spas. The south entrance to Joshua Tree National Park off 1-10 Hwy is about an hour’s drive from La Quinta.
