One of the most fascinating and oldest Native cultures in California is the Washoe. Known for their exceptional basket weaving, you can see examples on display at Tahoe City’s Marion Steinbach Indian Basket Museum. Better yet, meet and watch people actually make baskets at the annual Basket Weavers Gathering on August 23, 2014. Weavers from all over California and Nevada sell baskes and weave in demos. $5 admission, see northtahoemuseums.org
