NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF.–The island in Gilligan’s Island TV series was filmed in cove at Corona del Mar, a beach community in Newport Beach. The popular location isn’t actually an island, though Newport Beach does have about half a dozen islands nearby. One of them is as close to Gilligan’s Island as you can get, considering the residents of Bay Island can’t drive cars to their homes. Nope. They can take a push cart, a golf cart or they can walk across a small bridge that transports them to their island paradise less than a mile from the famous Gilligan’s Island immortalized in the lyrics:

No phone, no lights, no motor car,
Not a single luxury
Like Robinson Crusoe
It’s primitive as can be.

So join us here each week my friends,
You’re sure to get a smile,
From seven stranded castaways
Here on Gilligan’s Isle!

Note: A house on Bay Island recently listed for $6.2 million. It shares good company in the private sanctuary of 24 waterfront homes.
