Edging along the Pacific Ocean and Lake Merced (shown in photo) are four Bay Area golf courses that enjoy spectacular afternoon breezes, sometimes mixed with fog for extra challenges– Daly City’s Lake Merced Golf Club (private),  San Francisco’s The Olympic Club (private), San Francisco Club (private), and TPC Harding Park (public) which includes Fleming 9 hole course, as well as PGA 18 hole public golf course.

Several of the private clubs host tournaments and have guest policies, but if you want to play a round of golf at a public course in San Francisco, head for TPC Harding Park (tpc.com). It has been a hit with visitors since its renovation in 2005 when extra yardage was added to make it a 7,169-yard, PGA-worthy venue, while rekindling the spirit of the 1929 era in which it was built. Golf Digest ranked it “one of the best places to play.”  There are six public golf courses to enjoy in San Francisco.
