It’s 40 days after Christmas — what time is it? It’s time to bless the children’s dolls. Candlemas, a festival that includes a traditional blessing of elaborately dressed dolls depicting the presentation of the infant Jesus in the Temple takes place each Feb. 2. In Los Angeles the event is one of many annual celebrations the public is invited to see and experience free. From the blessing of dolls on Olvera Street to the blessing of animals in the Plaza in April, the events generally get large turnouts and many participants.
