Blue Angel Scheduled Visits to California

Everybody needs an angel on their side. The 2018-2019 U.S. Navy Blue Angel schedule promises many thrills in California’s friendly skies this year and next.

How are air show locations determined?

Department of Defense fields hundreds of requests to hold air shows featuring the Navy Blue Angels. The squadron reviews each request. Blue Angels Events Coordinator, Navy and Department of Defense officials approve a final schedule in December.

Since 1946 the United States Navy flight demonstration squadron comprised of aviators from the Navy and Marines has delighted and wowed 11 million annual spectators.

  • 17 officers voluntarily serve with the Blue Angels each year
  • Team includes 3 tactical  fighter or  attack  jet pilots, 2 support officers and 1 Marine Corps C-130 pilot
  • One Boss, the Blue Angels Commanding Officer who flies Number 1 jet, must have at least 3,000 tactical jet flight-hours and have commanded a tactical jet squadron.
  • Flying jets Number 2 through 7 are Navy and Marine Corps jet pilots with an aircraft carrier qualification and a minimum of 1,250 tactical jet flight-hours.
  • Flying the”Fat Albert” C-130T Hercules aircraft are Marine Corps aircraft commander pilots with at least 1,200 flight hours.
