Have you been shopping lately? From Sacramento to San Diego cars are circling normally deserted grocery store parking lots looking for a spot with hopes of picking up much needed food & staples. Thanks to the COVID-19 scare, shelves are bare after people began stocking up this past week.

Shoppers who shifted to online buying and home delivery had to ditch those outlets recently when many items were suddenly “Out of Stock.” At big box stores limits were placed on purchases of toilet paper, bottled water and other goods–but items have been quickly snatched up by concerned buyers, as well.

Marc Hammad, owner of Surf Liquor, noticed paper products were missing from many stores. “You can buy toilet paper, paper towels and other items in our store.”

Eric Bakker, owner of Antiques of the Sea, on Pacific Coast Highway, across from Captain Jack’s Restaurant, said the virus has forced him to close, except for appointments (562-592-1752).

Bill Anderson, of Anderson Art Gallery, said, “I’m open regular hours: Friday & Saturday, 1-9 and Sunday, 1-6. “This virus can’t shut down everything. We have to take precautions,” said the 26 year gallery owner.

Sunset Beach businesswoman Dawn McCormack said she had to cancel Timeless Treasures. It was scheduled this week in Huntington Beach. “We wanted to take precautions, regarding the health of our friends, family is our top priority,” she said.

Huntington Beach Mayor Lyn Semeta said she’s praying for the vulnerable, including her parents, who are 85 & 89.

Assistant Pastor Chad Harris of Calvary Chapel of the Harbor, said, “This is just a walk of Faith. We’ll get through it.” As of this posting the church remains open but offers online streaming of Sunday services.
