Signature Events Canceled in California

Grounded: Several upcoming California air shows featuring the Blue Angels are not taking place!

If you don’t know, don’t go–that’s the best advice for attending some of California’s favorite Spring 2020 events such as festivals & parades, museums, concerts and plays. The situation is fluid and events that appeared to be in play yesterday are now canceled. So, before you go, be in the know. Contact event planners and destinations to get accurate, up-to-date information.

State public health experts announced on March 11 that gatherings with 250 people or more should be rescheduled or canceled. Smaller gatherings can proceed if organizers implement 6 feet of social distancing.

  • ADVISORY: Winchester Mystery House closed through April 1, 2020
  • Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day will not take place as public health precaution.
  • Channel Islands Maritime Celebration of the Whales Festival has been Canceled due to health concerns and COVID-19
  • Coachella will now take place on October 9, 10 and 11 and October 16, 17 and 18, 2020. Stagecoach will take place on October 23, 24 and 25, 2020. All purchases for the April dates will be honored for the rescheduled October dates.
  • San Diego’s South Park Business Group Spring Walkabout CANCELLED due to the COVID-19 outbreak
  • Event cancellation – Children’s Day event in Loma Linda on March 11 was canceled.
  • The Queen Mary has decided not to hold its annual ShamRock ‘N’ Roll event.
  • San Diego shamRock canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.
  • The 50th Annual NAF El Centro Blue Angels Air Show has been CANCELLED at the direction of the health authorities.
  • Blue Angeles – Los Angeles Air Show canceled March 21-22.

California COVID-19 by the Numbers

As of March 12, 2020 there are a total of 198 positive cases and four deaths in California: 24 cases are from repatriation flights.

The other 174 confirmed cases include 60 that are travel related, 43 due to person-to-person transmission, 44 are community acquired  and 27 are from unknown sources. Of all the confirmed positive cases:

Age 0 – 17: 4 cases
Age 18 – 64: 113 cases
Age 65+: 79 cases
Unknown: 2 cases

Approx. 11,100 people are self-monitoring after returning to the U.S. from travel. Eighteen public health labs in California are testing for COVID-19.
