California is cool enough to bear the names of Ferrari California (shown) and VW camper vans series “California” with models such as California Ocean.  However, in the automotive world the big splash and unveiling of new cars has traditionally followed a pattern of releases NOT in California but at shows in Paris, Frankfurt, Geneva, Detroit and Beijing, as well as U.S. cities such as Chicago. Surprisingly one of the largest consumers of cars (California) doesn’t even rank in the Top 10 of automotive shows.  In an interesting twist several car manufacturers have hand-picked California car shows to present special offerings this year.

• Nissan announced that it will debut its 2017 GT-R NISMO at the Japanese Classic Car Show on Sept. 24th, 2016 at the Queen Mary in Long Beach.
• Porsche is directing its efforts into Los Angeles and New York auto shows instead of Detroit, presumably hoping to reach the largest consumer markets for its products.
• California automotive shows include Anaheim and Sacramento in October; Fresno, Los Angeles and San Francisco in November; and San Diego and San Jose in January.
