Melody Yoko Reilly was born and raised in Redondo Beach, Calif. If her mother hadn’t entered her into a modeling contest during one of the family visits to Japan, Melody probably would have attended an American university and would be buried in the books, no doubt. Instead, the leggy beach girl with the infectious smile packed her belongings and moved after high school to Tokyo where she has become one Japan’s most popular and sought-after models and host on the wildly popular Japan Broadcasting Company (NHK) series, Kawaii International. In a recent interview Melody said Japan is a complete 180 from living in Redondo Beach; big city, foreign language, public transportation, no beach, weird food. She also found the atmosphere filled with new experiences, challenges, and opportunities.  “Actually, I think being brought up in the U.S. helped me to not be afraid of what the future held and to do my best and have fun in whatever came my way,” she said.
