California Big on Ice Cream

It’s quite fitting that the U.S. President from California, Ronald Reagan, declared July “National Ice Cream Month” in 1984. California is leading producer in the nation of dairy products, including ice cream. Like award-winning craft beer and wines that come from our state, ice cream production just keeps getting better with time. From the Los Angeles based Peddler’s Creamery which relies entirely on in-house bike pedaling to churn their stock of organic dairy and non-dairy ice cream and sorbet to The Penny Ice Creamery in Santa Cruz, one of the few producers that makes ice cream completely from scratch, you’d be amazed what they concoct! Behind their gourmet flavors is the simplest recipe derived from Thomas Jefferson: 2 bottles of good cream, 6 yolks of eggs, 1/2 lb. sugar, a stick of Vanilla, and nothing else. If you think eating ice cream is like paradise, head to Paradise, Calif. for the Ice Cream Social Friday, July 22, 2016, 3 p.m. See: paradisechamber.com
