California Cowboys and Cowgirls Honored

California cowboys and cowgirls have been honored with nominations and awards by the national organizations that select the finest in the industry. Pictured left to right are recent recipients: John W. Jones, Jr. who was born in Santa Maria and was recently nominated for Steer Wrestling by National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum; Pat North Ommert, who was honored by the Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame for her illustrious career touring the world with Wild West shows. She acted as a stunt double in Hollywood movies; Ed LeTourneau, who was born in San Francisco and nominated for Director’s Choice in Bullriding by  by National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Now retired after 53 years as a veterinarian, LeTourneau is a member of the NSPRA Hall of Fame; the Oakdale, California, High School Athletic Hall of Fame; and the U.C. Davis Athletic Hall of Fame.

Day of the Cowboy is Celebrated July 22, 2017 in Norco, also known as Horse Town USA.  But the hard working cowboys and cowgirls throughout the state carry a proud tradition every day.
